How to choose a Reiki Practitioner

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

During my presentations, one of the most common questions is, “How to choose a Reiki practitioner?” Finding the best energy healer for you is no different from finding a dentist or hairdresser who meets your needs: It often requires research and recommendations from people you trust. There are a few things to consider, and a few questions to ask.

1. Be honest with yourself.

Why am I seeking out energy healing? Am I ready to be honest with my practitioner? How open am I to receiving this type of treatment? “The teacher appears when the student is ready.” Asking yourself and answering honestly, these types of questions can help you figure out where you need to start. We all are a cumulative result of the events we have experienced during our entire life span; so is the healing. Are you ready to make changes in your life?

2. How to Choose the Right Healer for You

So, how do we choose the actual person? Use your gut, your intuition. Talk to them before setting up an appointment; some will offer a free initial session. How do you feel when you see, hear, or interact with them? Most practitioners are happy to answer any questions you may have and help you feel more comfortable. Do you feel relaxed, or do you feel tense or embarrassed? Your Energy Practitioner needs to be professional, trustworthy, and understand your situation without judgment. Questions to ask:

  • What are their credentials? From whom did they learn? In-person or online? What is their lineage? I know masters who teach certification classes in 2.5-3 hours. It is practically impossible to learn anything in this period.

  • Do they belong to any National or International Reiki organization? These organizations give regular updates on any advancements in Reiki practice; renowned Reiki practitioners share their experiences and provide means for continuous improvement.

  • Do they have an endorsement or are part of any national health or holistic organization?

  • How long do they practice? Level of experience. Some hospitals and Reiki Centers require a practitioner to have at least Reiki Level 2 to practice.

  • Pay attention to how a practitioner charges: per minute, for 30 min, per hour? This is important, will the practitioner pay full attention to you or the clock on the wall.

  • And last but not least, how much do they charge for their services? Remember the old saying, “you get what you pay for.” When I started my practice, I charged half of what I charge now. I charge more because I have more experience, more skills, took more classes since, and added more modalities to my toolbox.

A good, honest practitioner will always have your best interest at heart and truthfully tell you if they think their skillset can address your needs or refer you to someone else, they feel could be more useful to you.

3. Location: Where Is Your Energy Healer Based?

How far are you willing or able to travel for an Energy Healing session? Convenience is essential; however, it’s worth going out of your way to work with an Energy Healer you resonate with more.

Most of my clients have mobility limitations or immune deficiency, some in hospitals, in assisted living facilities, so I travel to them. Some of my clients live in other states or countries, so I use technology to communicate and provide distance healing.

You can see my credentials on the page About.

I hope it was helpful.

With light and love,
