Reiki and Nonduality

Like any other traditional healing technique, Reiki has roots in spirituality based on the philosophy that sees an individual as part of the Universe. The esoteric aspect of the Reiki teaching is realizing our connections with the Universal Life Energy. It is the awareness that we are all connected on many levels and are all part of the Great Universal Symphony. Reiki precepts are the primary tool to help us tune up and become a perfect instrument in this symphony. We are not just part of the Universe, but the Universe itself, with unlimited possibilities, power, and wisdom. The great poet Rumi reminds us, "You are not a drop in the ocean; you are the entire ocean in a drop."

Reiki precepts, mantras, and meditation help us achieve inner peace - the foundation for health and happiness. "Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life," said another poet, Omar Khayyam. It is what Reiki's precepts teach: just for today, just for this moment, be grateful and kind. When we employ Reiki precepts, we focus on today. There are no worries about the future or anger about the past; only be true to yourself, be grateful, and kind.

As energy practitioners, we are all familiar with Universal Life Energy or Biofield, a field that connects everything. When we live by these Reiki precepts, we understand the principles of Nonduality — understanding that everything is always connected and sharing information and energy. That there is no us and them. It is like light and darkness; one cannot exist without another. It is like yin and yang. Nonduality is not a philosophical concept anymore. The latest discoveries in quantum theory help us better understand the healing process and the connections between healer and recipient. We do not have all the answers, but we understand them better. New concepts always face rejection. If in early ages, innovators and visioners were called heretics and burned; nowadays, guards of the past use a new name, pseudoscience. It is hard to accept new things if it proves that everything you practice or teach is not entirely accurate. Like in the current medical practice, we were focused on specialization/departmentalization, seeing all the body's systems and organs independently. In the new paradigm, we see that everything in our body is connected and communicating. It is a new holistic approach to the human body and everything around.

As sensual beings, people see themselves as individuals, and we are. But we are not separate units; we live in a community. We are not separated from other people, the world, or our environment. The recent pandemic proves how closely we are all connected. In the new paradigm, we discover interconnectedness. We realize the Oneness of everything and thereby understand what nonduality is. Many of us experience nonduality when we enter a room with several people and have some gut feelings about some of them; because we are all energetically connected.

During our sessions, we enter the state of nonduality, connecting with the recipient. In this state of nonduality, our recipient also connects with us. We open a two-way street. It explains why after a session many times, we also feel better. Love, kindness, and compassion are like a light; when we turn on the light for someone, it also makes our world brighter.

Another recent term is quantum entanglement that Albert Einstein described as "spooky action at a distance." It shows how one thing can affect another at a distance. It is a scientifically proven phenomenon. Recent discoveries in this area help better understand the physics of distance healing.

Nonduality is the realization that we are all connected; it gives a new perspective on life. The knowledge that we all affect the world around us lets us look at the phrase "love your neighbor" in a new light. "Love is a bridge between you and everything," stated Rumi. We all have the power to make our world a better place, and we can start with ourselves, our families, and our neighborhood.
